National Conference on development of Agriculture in Bihar – 2011

A conference has been conducted on agricultural development in Indira Gandhi Planetarium Auditorium, Patna on 22nd & 23rd September 2011. In this conference 40 research papers by different scientists in six different sessions have been presented. Former Vice Chancellor, Rajendra Agricultural University, Pusa and secretary Dr.K.R.Maurya put the focus on the importance of the role of this National Conference and said that now the journey of the farmers will not be constrained within the farm field rather the final destination of this journey is the industries. He urged farmers, Policy makers, Industrialists, and the Scientists to make this auspicious journey successful.

In technical Session, Dr. V. N. Sahai, Former Regional Director (Agri), Patna, appealed farmers to double up the production of Paddy crops. Dr. Ram Kumar Prasad Sinha, Senior Scientist said that with the help of plant pathology different plant’s diseases can be cured and can be controlled completely. The session was continued with the Dr. Ashok Kumar Sinha, who addressed through his research papers that to control the dire consequences of climatic change there is an urgent need to focus on the development of sustainable varieties through Genetical Engineering.

 

Chairman of Agriculture Reproduction Session, Dr. P. B. Jha put focus on specialty maize, baby corn, Sweet corn, and Pop Corn. Dr. R. N. Sharma, Regional Director, Patna emphasized on the role of popularizing black rice in India. Dr.R.P.Sinha , pulse breeder advocated on the increase of agricultural production and its productivity.

 

Dr. Prabhat Kumar Rai, Senior scientist, horticulture, RA University , PUSA and chairman (session) emphasized on the productivity of fruits and their different products like jelly(Guava) , Caned Litchi , Litchi Squash, Mango and pine apple jam as well as Banana chips and Fig. He said that a journey of farmer from field to industry is possible only through the medium of fruits.
